Russian dance workshop and concert of Russian dance, song and music took place at the Kensington Parkwood Elementary school during International Night event. New York City based ensemble Barynya offers Russian dance and music program for multicultural school assemblies in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, and nationwide.
Barynya provides Colorful educational performance with two, three or more dancers. Every dance is performed in different set of beautiful hand-made costumes. Each costume set represents the place where the dance is originated from. Artistic Director and founder of the group Mikhail Smirnov is hosting the performance by giving a short explanation of every number of the program in English.
In December 2008 Mikhail Smirnov and ensemble Barynya dancers participated in NBC's "SUPERSTARS OF DANCE" international dance competition led by executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, the mastermind behind "American Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance." Mikhail was selected as one of eight judges to decide which country will take home the coveted Trophy. The show hosted by Michael Flatley ("Lord of the Dance") and Susie Castillo, a former Miss USA, will be premiered on January 5th and aired through January 26th, 2009.

Russian and Ukrainian folk dance and music workshops are very popular in schools and colleges.
Very often dancers and musicians of ensemble Barynya spend a few extra minutes after the formal concert and invite audience to learn a few dance steps, folk song, or play folk instruments.
