Milochka is a Kiev-born singer-songwriter and poet from New York, whose Russian and English songs are filled with passion, longing, dreams, hope, and inspiration, and whose repertoire includes Russian, Gypsy, and Yiddish hits. Mila’s songwriting style blends influences from the legendary Vladimir Visotsky, the world renown Charles Aznavour, as well as from the Russian and American pop music. Her singing style has often been compared to Edith Piaf’s and Marlene Dietrich’s.
The band, "Milochka", includes Mila Levine (vocals, piano/keyboard, acoustic guitar), Susan Mitchell (violin, cello), Wendy Scher (drums, percussion), Sergei Deych (bass). The band also works with several guitarists, who play acoustic and electric guitars. Other instruments, such as clarinet, may be added, depending on the repertoire and number of performers allowed/requested.
March, 2008- Mila was selected to perform at a Singer Songwriters Conference in Cape May, NJ;
2007, 11th Unisong International Songwriting Contest--Honorable Mention for the Russian song "Razukrashivay"
2007, International Songwriting Competition--Mila’s song "Razukrashivay" was selected for review.
Mila was born in Kiev, Ukraine, on September 22nd. She is professionally trained in both classical piano and voice. She has been writing poetry since she was seven, and songs—since she was thirteen. Her music is a combination of Russian, French, and other European influences. Growing up, Mila’s major influences were Russian Bards, especially, the legendary Vladimir Vysotsky.
Mila’s Russian songs written in this special "Russian Bard" style are full of exploring the very depths of the most sacred human emotions. She considers herself a singing poet, as her lyrics and poetry are truly profound, and they combine symbolism with beautiful, artful imagery.
