On Tuesday, December 16th, 2010 Russian dance amd music ensemble Barynya performed at the Rusal corporate party at the Russian Consulate NYC.
RUSAL is the world’s largest producer of aluminium and alumina. The party took place at the Consulate-General of Russia in New York City - the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in New York City. The consulate is located at 9 East 91st Street in New York City in a building that was the former John Henry Hammond House. The five-story Renaissance style limestone town house was designed by Carrere and Hastings, who were also responsible for the design of the New York Public Library. The Hammonds sold the house to noted eye surgeon Ramon Castroviejo in 1946. The Government of the Soviet Union purchased the house from Castroviejo in August 1975 for $1.6 million US dollars. Ensemble Barynya performed with only four members: Elina Karokhina (balalaika), Leonid Bruk (balalaika-contrabass), singer Irina Zagornova, Mikhail Smirnov (guitar, garmoshka, vocals). Dancers, singers, and musicians of Russian dance and music ensemble Barynya are available for hire for the performing art centers, festivals, schools, libraries, concert halls, restaurants, private and corporate events as one powerful ensemble or in smaller groups.
