garmoshka Garmoshka (also known as garmon') is a Russian folk button accordion, musician who plays "garmoshka" called in Russia "Garmonist". Garmoshka is a free-reed wind instrument. It has two rows of buttons on the right side, which play the notes of a diatonic scale, and two or three rows of buttons on the left side, which play the primary chords in the key of the instrument as well as its relative harmonic minor key. Alexander is a native of the small town Bugulma, now Republic of Tatarstan. He studied singing in The Gnesin Academy of Russian Music in Moscow, Russia. Ruslan Khain Ruslan Khain is a professional bass, contrabass, balalaika contrabass player based in New York. Ruslan started to perform with Russian music and dance ensemble Barynya in 2005. Ruslan graduated from the Russian Conservatory for Music in St. Petersburg. Classically trained from the early age of five, Ruslan has been exposed to and fascinated by music from the beginning. Worlds away from the birthplace of the jazz art form, at seventeen he discovered the great recordings of Count Basie, Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald and, later, such greats as Jimmy Blanton, Charlie Parker, Oscar Pettiford, Paul Chambers, Sam Jones, Monk and Bud Powell. Ruslan Khain Artistic Director and founder of ensemble Barynya Mikhail Smirnov is a professional Russian folk singer, performer and musician with many years of experience. He plays garmoshka (Russian diatonic accordion), balalaika, classic guitar, jaleika, kugikly, contrabass balalaika and gusli. Mikhail Smirnov’s specialty is traditional Russian folk music and songs from various regions of Russia.
