The group specializes in the traditional songs and dances of the Russian Roma (Gypsy) tradition.
"VIA ROMEN" repertoire includes fiery Gypsy melodies, lyrical romansy, instrumental music and Russian Gypsy dances. Director of the group Vadim Kolpakov, who has been steeped in the tradition from childhood, plays the Russian 7-string guitar,
sings and dances. The New York Times acclaimed Vadim's virtuoso guitar playing.
He has toured extensively in the USA and Europe.

Vadim Kolpakov has been steeped in the tradition from childhood. Vadim plays the Russian 7-string guitar,
sings and dances. He has toured extensively in the USA and Europe, including such venues as Carnegie Hall, Harvard
University, Colony Theater (Miami, FL), and the Kennedy Center Concert Hall (Washington D.C.).
Petra Gelbart, also a specialist in Gypsy traditional music, has performed traditional and original Roma songs vocally and on the accordion at venues such as the California Herdeljezi Festival, Hungarian House (NY) and the The Ida Kelarova International Festival at Svojanov Castle, Czech Republic.
Moshe Shulman was born in Russia, started playing violin at age of 5. In 1988 he won the 1st price of the Krasnodar region competition. After immigrating to Israel in 1990 he continued violin studies and composition studies with Prof. Mark Kopytman at the Jerusalem Academy of Music, where he received his Master in Music. Moshe won the Dean’s Scholarship (2004), the “Acum” Scholarship for excellence in composition(2003), and the Keren Sharet America-Israel Scholarship (2002). Moshe’s works have been performed in Israel, Europe, Taiwan, and USA. Recently, he formed a Klezmer band "AKHVA" with which he performs throughout Boston area.
Anna Harley is a singer specializing in music of the Russian Baroque, classical, Russian Roma and contemporary composers. She has performed nationally and internationally with groups such as TALISMAN, the American Repertory Theater, Boston Camerata, Handel and Haydn, Opera Noord Holland Noord, and Opera Boston.
Goran Popovski learned to play the guitar at a very young age. He has played many genres of music including Classical, Jazz, South American, Bosa Nova, and World music. With an acoustic sound he has traveled and toured in many European cities including Rome, Sofia, Thessalonica, Belgrade, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Bodrum, and Prague. Goran made a musical appearance in Giuseppe Tornatore’s movie “Stanno tutti bene” which was filmed in Rome and starred the legendary Marcello Mastroianni. He has appeared in numerous performances on TV and Radio programs. Goran moved to the US in 1997 and is active in the local New England scene with the “Macone” band which performs at various Balkan ethnic events.
Ekaterina Bolotovskaya, vocalist, originally from Russia. Since 1999 she has been a member and soloist of Boston Russian Chorus.
Also as a special guest, expert in Russian Gypsy music Vasily Romani who was named the best Roma (Gypsy) singer in the USA recently. He hails from the Moscow Gypsy Theater Romen and is now based in New York City. He has toured extensively nationally and internationally and recently led his group in a concert at Carnegie Hall.
