Shir-El's background in ballet, tap, jazz and gymnastics prepared her for her journey into bellydance.

She started studying bellydance at Serena Studios in 1999 with the legendary Serena Wilson.

After 3 years, she began studying Egyptian style with various teachers, including Amara Al Amir, Mohammad Shahin, Diana Tarkan and Yousry Sharif.

Being part of the Tapestry Dance Company under the direction of Amara Al Amir taught me the importance of stage presence and choreography.

My role in the Bellydance Nights Dance Troupe gave me the experience to collaborate with dance partners and create choreography of my own.

Dancing with live bands constantly gives me the chance to express myself through improvisation.

When I began ballet at age 3, I simply wanted to be on a stage and wear pretty costumes like the ballerinas I saw on stage. My mother introduced me to dance by bringing me to the ballet.

The lights, costumes, music, beauty and grace filled my imagination and heart with a world unknown to others who do not dance. Dance is a world known only to those who enter it.

Dance reveals our fantasies and fears. It captures moments of intamacy between souls of strangers. It raises us above politics although we wallow in its mire. This is the magic of dance.
