Russian folk dance show "Canary" from Los Angeles is specializing in Russian, Moldovan, Ukrainian, Gypsy and Jewish folk dance. Founded by choreographer Youri Nelzine in 1998, the "Canary" folk dance ensemble is composed of young dancers who love the art of traditional dancing. Each choreography of the Folk dance show "Canary" brings out the beauty of the Europian theme developed in the dance, interwoven with humor, elements of ballet, modern and stylized folk dance. The ensemble's rich repertoire consists of regional folk dances as well as thematically stylized character and interpretive dances, drawing on the rich history of the Russian, Moldovan, Ukrainian, Gypsy and Jewish folk dance form and influenced by classical ballet, modern dance and even jazz which the ensemble members study as part of their training regimen. Folk dance show "Canary" have performed extensively over the years throughout the United States. Through their dedication and commitment to excellence in traditional Dance, the members of the Folk dance show "Canary" from Los Angeles, USA continue to reach new levels of technical and artistic ability. The choreographers of the Folk dance show "Canary" Lilia Babenko and Youri Nelzine are truly talented professionals. They graduated from the University of Choreography in Moldova and have performed with the Moldovian Academy Ensemble of Folk Dance "Jok" and with the Moldavian National Dance Company "Varta". They have toured extensively in Europe, the former Soviet Union and Australia.

RUSSIAN DANCE

First official record of Russian dancing is related to year 907 when Great Russian Prince Oleg (Vechshiy Oleg) celebrated his victory over Greeks in Kiev. During the Gala Dinner 16 male dancers dressed as bears and four bears dressed as Russian dancers performed for the guests. After the dinner was over Great Prince commanded to release the bears into the wild and to execute all the dancers.
